Cuzco

We had a short flight to Cuzco from Lima. The moment we got of the plane it felt like some one had taken my breath away! Cuzco is at 11,600 feet so a nice altitude. You are recommended to take baby steps on exiting the plane and really relax for the day! We don't need to be told twice to relax so we headed to our hostal, which was one of the nicest we have stayed in, it was on two floors with the bed upstairs. It had a feather matress and a thick heavey feather duvet. Our heads hit those pillows and we slept for about 3 hours and were up just in time for dinner!
Our hostal was at the top of a steep hill so we walked on down in to down where the begging and selling began...."do you like my painting....you buy my painting...oh you don't like my painting....whats wrong with my painting" Brett and I were very polite with our "no Gracious". Every local was selling something, every restaurent had someone outside trying to get you in to there restaurent. We had been recommended the Inka Grill as their Guinea Pig was supposed to be very good...Brett had a steak and Chips mix and I have Guinea Pig....or maybe just risotto! Guinea Pig was on the menu though! We made the mistake of having aicohol, just one each but with the altitude it gave us fab headaches. We headed back on the up hill walk to our hostal, and my God we realised the altitude again, both of us struggling to breath...and we had an 88k walk to do in a few days...I was getting more worried by the second!!
We spent the next few days exploring Cuzco and preparing for our walk to Machu Picchu. Every day that we went out we got hasseled more and more, the kids were the worst asking for lunch money and putting on the sweetest of faces! It was hard to keep saying no but we couldn't give money to every one. We bought a few of the local hats and clothing items, which you'll see in the pics and enjoyed our days of comfort!
We stopped drinking and packed for the hike. The day was drawing nearer and we were both very apprehensive.
We set our alarm for 3.45am to meet our guide for The Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu...I hope we make it back in one piece.....Next stop the biggest walk of my life.............
