Peru - Mirafloures

We had an eight hour flight from LA to Peru via San Salvador. Due to our flight being bought forward we had a six hour wait at the lovely San Salvador airport. We lent up against each other and slept for about three hours so not bad going! We flew with Taca airlines so every thing was Spanish orientated including our first check in at LA, we didn`t have seat numbers so were being sat apart I told a little white lie to the check in girl when boarding telling her of my extreme fear of flying and would it be possible if we sat together, all the ´no seat numbered people´ were being spread out across the plane! She managed to get us seats together! They had free drinks aboard straight vodka, gin or rum I declined but every one around us seemed to be necking them down!
After a very long day we finally arrived at Lima airport, we got a `safe` taxi to our hotel where the fun began...they didn`t have our reservation and were fully booked. We`d been up for a silly amount of hours so I had a near on tantrum and she managed to find us a room for the night and a room at a different hotel for the following two nights! Joy!
From what we have seen so far the Peru people do not take in to consideration any road rules and drive like maniacs! There buses are little vans where they will fit in as many people as possible. The taxis bib at you to see if you want a ride. Zebra crossings are there but you risk your life crossing them!
Our first meal out was at a little local restaurent where they didn`t speak a word of English, lucky for us the secret Spansih speaking Brett pipes up and orders us beers, water with no ice and food. We recievd the lots all as we requested!!
The pollution here is almost unbearable, even in the hotel lobby the fumes get to you. we are tempted to get masks. The street cleaners have the right idea, they are covered from head to toe with only their eyes showing!
Brett and I stand out and have lots of people asking us for money, there is lots of begging here and its hard to see the people like that, especially those with children.
We spent a few days wandering around the town and went over to the beach. The beach is below cliffs and has huge waves with lots of surfers. The water has a brown mask over it and you are advised not to swim in the sea. Its very pretty there and very westernised with a shopping mall and shops overlooking the beach. We had lunch in one of the restaurents over looking the beach, its so cheap here its almost silly! But I won't complain any further as we do have a budget to stick to!
We didn't really do a great deal in Lima, just saw what we wanted to see and prepeared for our trip to Cuzco.
Next stop Cuzco....
