We left Panama City bright and early. We headed of onto 'Scenic Highway 30A' which i a along the Panhandle Coast between Panama City Beach & Destin. Its an 18 mile stretch of road which basically goes along the crystal clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico. It was such a lovely drive, the sea was so calm and the skies clear blue, without a cloud in sight!
Half way along the scenic route is a little town called 'Seaside'. This was where the Truman Show was filmed. If you remember the film, every thing was perfect. The street names were called Cinderella Circle and Dreamland Heights, these are actual street names and the town the Truman Show was filmed is an actual town! No chain stores are allowed at 'Seaside'. All the stores are refreshing little boutique stores far away from the rest of the chain stores in Florida!
We had breakfast here and found the locals to be so friendly. The houses are down dead straight roads. The grass at the parks are perfect like football pitches before a big game. The houses are baby pink, blue and yellow.
We sent a package home to Mum, the lady in the post office was so friendly and helpful, she called her friend at the store to get us a box and taped it all up for us once it was packed. She told us what it was like when the Truman Show was being filmed and what it was like to meet Jim Carey and to see him around town. She told us about the hurricanes and how they destroyed the beaches and recommended lots of places for us to go to on our travels. Mum, expect a box in 6 to 10 days.
We would have liked to have spent more time here but we need to get going on our 360 miles drive to New Orleans.
Brett is in his element driving across the states. I move from the front seat to the lazy boy chair, to the table to update this or have a sneaky lay down on the bed! I do offer to drive but Brett insists he'll do it, so I do all the cooking. Although my first attempt at driving from one spot to another at the campsite i nearly took out a tree!
Next stop New Orleans....
