The weather had decided for us, it was over cast so we left Florionopilas. The 'Dad' from the hostel took us to the bus station where we had a few hours to kill before our 18 hour bus journey to the Iguazu Falls.
Lucky for us we had a couple of selfish women behind me and next to me who thought they would shout very loudly most of the 18 hours. If they weren't having a loud conversation they were up and down the stairs chatting to their mates who they later bought down to show the area of the bus we were in. We had paid for slightly more expensive seats so they almost laid down so we could get some sleep. At 5am we had the annoying ladies mates leaning all over my chair for another loud convo, we were not impressed. I am not a morning person and certainly not a 5am person. I swiftly sat up and made it very obvious i was not impressed. They soon left!
We had one movie in 18 hours, pirates of the Caribbean which I had never seen and which i still haven't really seen as it was all in Portuguese with no subtitles. We did sit there and watch the whole film though and kind of got the idea of things!
The toilets aboard the bus were awful but luckily we had lots of stops on route to use the awful bus station toilets, still not as bad as on the trek so i coped! We also didn't get any food or drink aboard which we were supposed to so we shared a small pack of Doritos for the 18 hours! Its all part of the adventure and as each day of the trip goes by we are appreciating things more and more!
We finally arrived at the Iguazu Falls bus station in Brazil and had pre booked our hostel which had told us what bus to get to get to the hostel. We boarded the local bus to lots of stares from the locals and all we had to do was get of at McDonald's, such a simple task! An hour later with no one else aboard, driving through country lanes we decided we had missed our stop! So, we had an hours ride back to the bus station and begun the journey again, this time the driver told us where our stop was, it was only 10 mins in to the journey!!
We arrived at our hostel, hostel Bambu and from the moment we stepped in you could see it was a nice one. It was actually voted number one hostel in Brazil! We were greeted by a friendly guy on reception and shown to our lovely room. The hostel had a fully stocked bar to include red wine, hammocks,a swimming pool and a pool table - Joy! The sun was shing, we could have headed straight out to the falls but we thought we'd chill by the pool and go the next day. It was so nice to sit on a sun lounger and chill out for a bit. We found out how to get to the falls, went out for dinner, did some laundry and met up with the other travellers. A nice start to our Iguazu adventure.
We woke late as our room actually had curtains and shutters so it was so dark but nice to have a good sleep after our broken sleep aboard the bus. We got up and headed straight to the falls. The Iguazu falls are within a National Park (some thing the Canadians should have done for Niagara) so it was surrounded by forest and wild life. We got the local bus there and then they have red double deckers in the park to take you around. Before going to the falls we went to the speed boat stop where you jump aboard a boat and go in to the falls. This was amazing and so much fun. We got absolutely soaked but it was a great way to see the falls. We then headed over to the walkways to see the rest and My God these falls were absolutely spectacular. I've never seen any thing like it. To think we drove from Chicago to Canada to see Niagara falls, what a disappointment. These falls were amazing. We were surrounded by them, I would recommend them! You'll have to look at the pictures to see what I'm talking about.
We walked all through the falls up and down the different walk ways, lots of fun. The Iguazu Falls are shared between Brazil and Argentina so you could see Argentina whilst in Brazil as well as Uruguay.
We spent a full day here seeing the marvels of the falls before heading back to our hostel for a chilled evening with the plan to leave for Argentina the following day.
