We landed in Miami to thunder storms and rain but still 74C. It took 2 hours to get through Miami airport with queues at security and customs and as prepared as I was we didn't get the grilling we got when arriving in NYC! By the time we got to our luggage every thing had been taken off and there was a Que 20 deep for lost luggage we were lucky ours had arrived!!
We arrived at our first and maybe only hotel 'The Albion' which is right on Lincoln Road which is where the trendy shops and restaurants are one side and South Beach and Ocean Drive the other! We are told that Lincoln Road is the place to see and be seen at! We were in a great location, the hotel was great the pool was fab to come back to after a hard day at the beach.
Miami was every thing we were expecting and more...blue skies, daily sun shine, long white beaches, warm sea, nice food surrounded by tanned happy people - All Good!
Little known to us before we arrived Miami is where 60% of the population speaks Spanish - lucky for us most people spoke English!
We spent our days here sunbathing and our evenings seeing the city, shopping and eating as you'll gather from the pics.
The most shocking thing that has happened so far is that one night we were out and Brett didn't finish a meal...I thought about taking him straight to the DR but he assured me he was fine just full up from the Nachos, double cheesebacon burger, fries beer etc... we are eating!!!
We spent a day at the Everglades National Park which was amazing, we took airboats over the water where we saw Ali gators, Iguanas, Turtles, vultures and other wildlife, quite amazing to see alligator's in there own environment. We got the chance to see Alligators up close and personal and Brett had a hold of a 4ft baby alligator! We had the chance here to have Alligator burgers but we politely refused!
After 5 hard days we left Miami, hired a car and headed West across the Florida Keys to the very end 'Key West'. Amazingly this was one journey where I didn't sleep... to drive along one highway with the Atlantic Ocean one side and The Gulf of Mexico the other side was an amazing drive and to top it off we timed it just right to see the sunset. I'm sure the first of many amazing sunsets! Here we are staying at a Historic Key West Inn. Its a little old house with about 10 rooms all wooden, sink in the bedroom and little balconies with rocking chairs on. Duval ST which is 2 blocks away from our hotel is a really lively street with a mix of night life including lots of Drag shows which we are yet to see.
We hired bikes and cycled round the Island going to the most Southern point in Continental USA, seeing the beaches and taking in the sites. We took a boat out for a Sun set cruise and watched the Sun set.
Today (Monday 7/4/8) we have been out sailing all day. We left at 9am this morning and arrived back at 4pm. We sailed about an hour out to sea to a reef where we spent an hour snorkeling. We then went to the sea park where we did Parascending, jet skiing, more snorkel ling, kayaking, trampolining, sea rock climbing and chilling! We've now added to our tan and are pretty tired after a hard Monday!
Next stop the East Coast of Florida making our way to Orlando....keep us posted on whats happening at home. We're having a great time xxxx
PS Mum, you'll be thrilled to know in one road trip we saw 2 deers, racoons, a rat, a snake in a birds mouth, birds which looked like vultures. I pointed them out to Brett like you always do to us xxx
