We arrived at the Recreation Vehicle (RV) site, to every one else motor home site, to pick up our prebooked 2 person camper van. We were expecting one like we had in New Zealand but couldn't see one at the site. After signing all the paper work and the tour of the van...how to empty the sewage etc. We were given the keys to our huge p sleeper camper van! There are a few pics of it on flikr.
So of we went, first stop the supermarket. Where we stocked up on fruit, veg, cereal, pasta etc. We even found an English section so we could get our much loved Robinsons Orange Squash, curry sauce, chocolate & baked beans - we've only been gone a few weeks!!
We arrived at our first campsite, where we booked in for 2 nights, we drove to our spot on a bit of a slope, hooked up and began preparing our evening meal...Spaghetti Bolognase...Brett & I can go to any where int he world and still get a few SPag Bols in!
We were all settled, having a beer, playing cards when I saw an ant so Brett swiftly killed it, when we saw another and another and another the van was covered in ants, on the bed, coming out the walls, every where! So we spent the next 3 hours on an Ant kill, we put it down to being in the US, we have to expect ants etc. They were 4 times the size of the ones at home. We had a sleep less night, missed our bus for our excursion but didn't see another ant until the following night. The Ant killer we had didn't work, then we started seeing beetles!! So i made a trip to the office to ask if this was normal, she said this is Florida hunny you get the odd ant, so I explained our ant story she said 'My God, call the rental people don't sleep in that van they bite' we swiftly moved to a motel up the road and called the van rental people. They swapped the van, refunded our hotel and said they suspected an ants nest!!! Theres me thinking I was being OTT!!
So van number 2 and we're on our way once more....so far not an ant in sight! Off we went and headed to Seaworld, we were beginning to think we'd never make it there. I wasn't as keen as Brett was to go, a very negative way of thinking from me but once you've seen one killerwhale jump, you've seen them all! If it was in the wild I'd be amazed! We ahould have saved our dollars and not bothered. We did think that maybe its a family place, aplace for kids but most of the kids around us during th Sharma show (the KW show) were screaming and crying! It is amazing how they train these animals but I can't help but think its a bit evil!
We swiftly left sea world and headed to Tampa, Florida to Bay Bayo campsite. A 5* site and it was lovely. Concrete pitches, pool tables, swimming pool the lot. We stayed here fro two nights. We chilled on our first day, sat by the pool, down loaded pics to the blog and basically perfected the art of chilling to the core!
We went to Busch Garden which had some fantastic rides. The longest we qued was 20 mins which was fab. I think by now we have been to too many theme parks and they have lost the thrill - I probably sound un grateful but going to the theme parks every day really can get too much. You can have too much of a good thing!
We left Busch Gardens and headed to the very North of Florida, heading towards Panama City. We stopped for the night at a very 'local' resort, Big Oaks River Resort. We don't think people actually stayed there. They were like "you want to stay here?" It was a real dive of a resort but fine enough for the night. The people were so friendly, they couldn't do enough for us. I think we probably had 4/5 helpers at one point!
