Most people plan their 'Florida vacation' up to a year in advance, have it all organised etc. Disney passes booked, breakfast with Mickey etc.. So, When Brett and I walked in to the All Start Disney resort @ WDW asking id they had vacancies for the next week they almost chocked on there "have a magical day" in amazement at us UK tourists! With the massive language barrier, us speaking English and them US English the guy double checked that we actually wanted accommodation for tonight and the week ahead. We confirmed and he sent us on our way!!
Not believing him I saw a Disney phone and called accommodation reservations reminding them it was the 'year of a million dreams' and my dream was to stay at a WDW resort for the next week from tonight. Two guys hung up on me and the third was very helpful in getting me a room for one night. We got a room at All star music. Every morning we had to call reservations to see availability, every day they got us a room. The luggage guys transferred our bags, we even got two nights in one room twice. The All Star Resorts consists of Music, Sports and movies. We stayed in all three!
We got our Disney passes and went to all the parks including the Hollywood Studios, the Animal Kingdom, The Magical Kingdom, Epcot, Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach. All the parks were great in there own way. The Hollywood Studios had the Hollywood Tower Hotel, where you go up in the Elevator and the doors open and you get dropped 13 floors. We saw some amazing stunt shows. The stunt cars was the best show. Its all very clever how they do it.
The Animal Kingdom had the Mount Everest ride which was basically a roller coaster with all the drops and loops then it went backwards, this was fantastic! Next here were the River Rapids. The Americans are all for filling each seat on all the rides. So there were two spaces on one ride, I squeezed in next to an O so small American Lady and Brett went next to an 8 year old girl. We all had to be strapped in together. Most of the riders in our raft had ponchos on apart from me, brett and our neighbours. We went through the first half of the ride, getting splashes here and there, then we were in for a big drop. As I was going down backwards Brett was laughing and laughing at me saying how i was going to get soaked, when at the last minute the boat turned and like ti was slow motion this big wave of water came up and absolutely drenched Brett. He was soaked through to his pants. I and the others on the boat have never laughed so much, he was the only one to get the soaking. It kept me amused all day!
The magical kingdom was indeed magical. The big ride there kept closing due to technical difficulties so we made do with the teacups and the merry go round. We were the eldest without children on the merry go round. I took an outside horse and Brett was an inside horse in front of me on his own, it was funny to watch!
The fire works here were amazing. The castle was all lit up and we even had a real life tinkerbell fly from the castle across the crowd. We watched ehd midnight light parades and ate mini doughnuts! Then got the good old Disney bus back to our resort.
Epcot didn't amaze us massively by day but by night the firework spectacular was indeed that, spectacular!
At Epcot, they have a round the world theme so have little towns including London, Italy, China etc.. Each little town sold real things associated with that country. Brett and I swiftly stocked up on chocolate, real English Cadbury chocolate mmmmmmm!
Typhoon Lagoon & Blizzard Beach are both waterparks with some of the biggest waterides I have ever seen. Typhoon Lagoon had a wave machine which let of a 6ft Tidal wave every 90 seconds, this was quite scary and took out the strongest of swimmers.
We spent our second Wedding Anniversary at Blizzard Beach which had a ride called Summit Plummet. Its more or less a vertical drop slide...very scary and one of the more extreme rides. Another great Disney ride!
We met Lou & Ads in Down town Disney and at Animal Kingdom. It was so nice to see some familiar faces. We had a few beers in an Irish Bar then headed to a club. A song came on that you all dance to, I can't remember for the life of me what its called, something like 'step to the left'slide to the right...krisskross, clap your hands...' Lou & Ads feel free to help out here. Any way, if this came on at home, you'd get a few groups dancing to it, here, every single person in the club bar us was on the dance floor doing the dance. every one is so easily pleased. It was very funny to watch! An american song came on after with a dance and they all continued dancing in time together!
Brett and I headed to Down town Disney on several evenings. We had a movie night, where we watched '21'. A drunken night, where we were there from midday, had dinner, went to the Irish Bar, a club and then a 70's/80's themed club and got the last bus back to the resort - fun time! Brett ran across the parking lot after seeing our bus, after the night we had had - Good Luck to him! So he was running with me running after him to get our bus, probably quiet a funny site tosee us drunk running...it wasn't our bus! Still we were waiting for it when it arrived!
By the end of the week at Disney we'd had enough of 'Goodmorning have a magical day & may all your dreams come true' every other sentence. If you weren't smiling some one would rush to assist you. The only healthy option was a Cesar salad, if not burgers, pizza, chips and coke - nice!
We found our brains were failing us too. You could say we have chilled to the core, without a care in the world, some days we could just sit there and stare for ages. Very strange to only have to worry about your next nights accommodation!
We spent our Wedding Anniversary at Blizzard Beach. It was slightly over cast so the temperature had dropped. We pretty much had the place to ourselves. We treated ourselves in the evening and went for a lovely Italian meal at the Swan Hotel. It makes my mouth water thinking of it now.
We've only been in America for 2 weeks but it amazes me how they just don't understand a word we say. We found this in NY & Boston too. A classic example would be....I was ordering food to our room one night, on the menu they had half a bottle of chardonnay & merlot so I said "can I have half a bottle of the merlot with our order please?" they replied "Sorry we don't sell half tubs of ice cream" Amazing!
Another example is, "our cell phone number is 07946" they would repeat "02632" so randomly different! Even saying Clark I've had to start saying it in an American accent for the to understand me. Its amazing as we all supposedly speak the same English language!
After a long week at Disney with accommodation every night we left on Wednesday 16th April 08 to go and pick up our camper van.
Good Bye comfy hotel rooms to a mobile home and camping....Let the fun begin....
